History

StratSpace specializes in space systems engineering and spacecraft systems. StratSpace was acquired by Phantom Space Corporation and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Phantom Space Corporation. In its18 years of operations, StratSpace has been involved in 46 satellite and deep space missions ranging from the tiny Lightsail program to the large Osiris Rex mission which will return samples from the asteroid Benu.   StratSpace was founded by Jim Cantrell to service the commercial and government in the burgeoning small satellite industry and counts among its past clients NASA, USAF, NRO, most major aerospace companies and many space startups including Iceye, Moon Express, and York Space Systems. StratSpace specializes in small satellites and commercial space applications. Choosing to specialize in a field means that you are completely devoted to it; that you will protect it as if it were your own. That is the energy that sets us apart.

StratSpace is composed of a network of aerospace professionals and is headquartered in Tucson AZ.  Our capabilities include spacecraft systems engineering, launch vehicle engineering, small satellite development, small propulsion systems, capture support and management, program management and space market research.  StratSpace has complete manufacturing, integration and test facilities in a 32,000 sf facility located in Tucson.

Jim Cantrell

Jim is a well known entrepreneur with 30 years of experience in space systems development and venture back business. Jim is the Founder and CEO of StratSpace but is also Founder of Vintage Exotics Competition Engineering, Vector Launch and on the founding teams of Moon Express and SpaceX. Jim serves in numerous boards in the aerospace and automotive world and has a far reaching network of connections and experience in the commercial, venture and government space industry.

Pat Dougherty

Dr. Pat Dougherty

Pat is a well known capture manager after he retired from a 20 year career in the Air Force that had multiple assignments in AF Laboratories and Pentagon supporting acquisition of Star War (Missile Defense) programs. Pat ran the MSX program office and later became the lead space system engineer for the Missile Defense Architecture development program and at Ball Aerospace played a key role in Ball winning SBIRS Low, Orbital Express, Have Gold, SBSS, GMI, and Landsat Instrument. Pat joined StratSpace Jan 2008 and leads our capture management activities.

Perry Frahm

Perry Frahm

Perry is an experienced systems engineer and missile defense expert specializing in infrared sensor systems, infrared phenomenology, missile systems, launch vehicles, satellites and kinetic kill vehicles. In his 35 years of industry experience, he specialized in spacecraft algorithm & simulation architecture design, testing, and validation, video & signal processing of electro-optical sensor measurement, software coding of video & signal processing algorithms & spacecraft models, Systems Engineering converting customer needs into system and sub-system requirements, design verification, testing, and risk analysis, AND product and technology development management..
